"Nuts In May" 1976 introduces us to irritating campers (aptly named) Keith Pratt and his wife Candice-Marie whose interaction with other site followers is a masterclass in observed human behavior. This was a TV version of an earlier stage play.Starring: Roger Sloman, Alison Steadman, Anthony O'Donnell, Sheila Kelly and Stephen Bill.

"Abigail's Party"[ 1977] broke Mike Leigh through to a mass audience and was the first tv drama to incorporate his signature improvisational approach as BeverleY and Lawrence attempt to impress and bore their suburban neighbours with knowledge of fine wine and Demis Roussos. Were these indeed the first Thatcherites?

Starring: Alison Steadman, Tim Stern, Janine Duvitski, John Salthouse and Harriet Reynolds.

Mike Leigh writes and directs drama which is both painful and funny in equal measure.

Both films showcase the extraordinary talent of Alison Steadman, as well as future members of Eastenders and Benidorm . Audiences for Leigh's more recent triumphs like "Turner" and "Peterloo" will relish in the comparisons!
