C SIDE

What is C-Side? …Under the Pavement the Beach…

The C-Side program stands for everything beginning with C…Climate, Co-operation, Community, Collaboration, Comedy, Culture, Children, Conspiracy or Cock-up, Critique, Citizenship, Celebration, Creativity, Cake…. It seems more apparent that C words seem increasingly very important in these strange historical times. C-Side…you get the idea.

C-Side will be presented in the smallest venue at the film festival (and its free), with a film and events program as part of Whitley Bay Film Festival, literally popping up alongside different venues or places each weekend of the festival.

Curated by Tracey Tofield, C-Side will present a show-reel of artists’ moving image work from 11am- 4pm every weekend day of the festival alongside presenting events, workshops and a quiet place to explore a ‘C’ theme that day.

John Berger:“What is saved in the cinema when it achieves art is a spontaneous continuity with all mankind. It is not an art of the princes or the bourgeoisie. It is popular and vagrant. In the sky of the cinema people learn what they might have been and discover what belongs to them apart from their single lives.

In Whitley Bay we have an ‘East Coast State of Mind’. Under the pavement is the beach! C-Side is a space, place for wondering, pondering, meandering, resting. In a sometimes fast-paced hostile, crazed world resting, sleeping, napping and relaxing (especially the eyes) is vital. The human eye is both a receiver and a projector. The team from WBFF invite you to sample the inaugural C-Side programme in the festival's mobile cabin at this special 10th anniversary event.

Thanks to the following who are supporting this event: Arts Council England Lottery Funded Project Grant,  North Tyneside Council, Newcastle University and Whitley Bay Big Local - as part of the Creative Civic Change project which aims to widen community involvement in the arts and the use creativity as a tool to make Whitley Bay an even better place to live, work and visit.
