FESTIVAL LAUNCH EVENT
BUSTER KEATON DOUBLE BILL with a live soundtrack performed by THE MEDIATORS
We launch the festival on the 15th September at the iconic Rendezvous Café with a look back at some of the festival’s previous events since 2010 in and around Whitley Bay. This is followed by a special ‘Double Bill’ of Buster Keaton’s short films The Blacksmith and One Week accompanied by a live electronic soundtrack performed by The Mediators.
The Blacksmith (1922) - 21 minutes
Buster Keaton shoes horses and repairs cars, with mixed results.
One Week (1920) - 25 minutes
A newly wedded couple attempts to build a house with a prefabricated kit, unaware that a rival sabotaged the kit's component numbering.
Over the years musicians Steve Brown, Andy Eardley and Oran Milstein have created unique live and electronic soundtracks to films such as: Metropolis at the Rendezvous Café, ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ at The Tyne Theatre and Opera House, ‘Nosferatu’ at Seaton Delaval Hall, 'The General’ in the Whitley bay Wildlife Community Garden, ‘Sunrise’ at the Rendezvous and ‘Sounds from the tower’ at St Mary’s Lighthouse.
